Health Promotion and Wellness
The mission of the NHCP Health Promotion and Wellness Department is to provide innovative and preventive healthcare that is evidence-based. We deliver education and promote the tools that are needed to facilitate readiness and resilience, while preventing injuries and promoting life-long healthy behaviors. You serve, and we protect.
We have the ability to educate in the following areas:
- Arthritis education
- This single-session class provides education on symptom management, joint-friendly exercises, stress reduction, and healthy lifestyle habits to improve one’s overall quality of life. (This class is offered upon request and can be provided to groups at other locations upon request.)
- Asthma basics
- This single-session class provides education on managing triggers, various medication devices and medications, and exercise-induced asthma (EIA). (This class is offered upon request and can be provided to groups at other locations upon request.)
- Back pain basics
- This single-session class delivers education on spine anatomy, proper body mechanics, exercises, and pain management strategies to improve daily function and help prevent long-term issues. (This class is offered upon request and can be provided to groups at other locations upon request.)
- “Eat the Rainbow”
- This single-session class encourages consuming a variety of different colorful fruits and vegetables to make healthy eating fun and to ensure a range of essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. (This class is offered upon request and can be provided to groups at other locations upon request.)
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- This single-session class provides education on symptom management (hypertension), accurate monitoring, and strategies to control blood pressure and reduce risks of stroke and heart attack. (This class is offered upon request and can be provided to groups at other locations upon request.)
- Osteoporosis education
- This single-session class educates participants on safe movement, posture, and exercise techniques to manage bone density, prevent falls, and improve bone strength. (This class is offered upon request and can be provided to groups at other locations upon request.)
- Pairing diet and exercise
- This single-session class offers a comprehensive approach to health, focusing on maximizing fitness results through synchronized nutrition and physical activity. (This class is offered upon request and can be provided to groups at other locations upon request.)
- Sleep education
- This single-session class is designed to help individuals better understand and improve their sleep health. (This class is offered upon request and can be provided to groups at other locations upon request.)
- Stress management
- This single-session class provides actionable techniques for reducing everyday stress by focusing on mindfulness, breathing, and quick cognitive shifts. (This class is offered upon request and can be provided to groups at other locations upon request.)
- Stroke education
- This single-session class empowers participants to help reduce disability risk by managing, controlling, and lessening modifiable lifestyle factors (high blood pressure, smoking, sedentary habits) through diet, exercise, and education. (This class is offered upon request and can be provided to groups at other locations upon request.)
- Tobacco cessation (walk-in hours from 1000-1500, Tue-Fri, Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, 4th floor, south side – no appointment needed)
- This single-session class helps patients become nicotine-free by creating a quit plan, explaining basics of nicotine addiction, providing ways to manage cravings - all supported with current tobacco resources.
